This is Walter, my pet canary.

I found him being attacked by a much larger bird in a parking lot on the beach over the summer. Now he’s my friend.

This is the first bird I’ve ever owned, so I’m learning as I go.

But if I’ve learned anything, it’s that a bird is the most unemotional pet you’ll ever have. I take him out of his cage from time to time to give him a chance to explore the living room. I assume he isn’t happy sitting in a cage (a pimped-out bird cage, by the way) all day everyday. But when I take him out, he just sits on the floor, confused and squawks.

Then when I try to pick him up, he hops away from me furiously.

I just want him to appreciate everything I do for him.

WHY WON’T YOU LOVE ME WALTER??!!?!

Downtown Park City, Utah.

I will be here in the first week of January with one of my oldest friends, Drew. We went to elementary and middle prep. school together, kept in touch through high school, and then he moved to Kansas to attend KSU. But he always comes down to visit.

Anyways, we decided to plan a snowboarding trip together a few months ago. I’m stoked because it’s finally so close I can feel it! Also, we’re going to be there during his birthday! :)

“Good news is that I truly out did myself this year with my Christmas decorations. The bad news is that I had to take him down after 2 days. I had more people come screaming up to my house than ever.Great stories. But two things made me take it down. First, the cops advised me that it would cause traffic accidents as they almost wrecked when they drove by. Second, a 55 year old lady grabbed the 75 pound ladder almost killed herself putting it against my house and didn’t realize it was fake until she climbed to the top (she was not happy). By the way, she was one of many people who attempted to do that. My yard couldn’t take it either. I have more than a few tire tracks where people literally drove up my yard.”

Spontaneous road trip, number two

Today marked the beginning of finals week for the last fall semester of my undergraduate career. It’s been a long and very busy semester. I am more than ready for the few weeks off that the month of December offers. I am even more excited about how I’m spending these last few weeks. Over the last week or so, a few friends and I have planned yet another short road trip to North Carolina. I’m so fortunate to have friends who are willing to hit the road with me, open to whatever these trips have to offer!

The game plan:
We’re heading to Charleston, South Carolina for a night first. My uncle has very graciously donated a room in his fabulous hotel to us for a night. So we’ll spend one evening and the following day visiting Charleston.

From there, we’ll hit my parent’s beautiful condo in Lake Lure, North Carolina for a few days.

Then we’re headed to Nashville, Tennessee for the only Silversun Pickups concert in the states on their current tour!

This is my first rejection letter ever. I knew applying for a position with the Chroniclewas rather far fetched, and I don’t feel disappointed by the rejection at all. I do admire the paper for the note I got in my mailbox today.
